Indiana hospital starts own police force

Community Hospital Anderson formerly relied on officers from local communities


Community Hospital Anderson (Ind.) recently sore in sworn in nine officers to its newly-formed police department, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

The healthcare facility formerly relied on officers from local communities for security.

The previous director of security will now serve as chief after spearheading the establishment of the police department. 

Indiana Senate Bill 582, signed into a law in 2014 by former governor Mike Pence, enables hospitals to create their own police departments and allows them full police powers.
