Indigo-Clean Technology a Winner at 2018 Sapphire Awards

In a rapidly developing lighting industry bursting with new technology, Kenall luminaires using Indigo-Clean Technology took top honors at the LEDs Magazine Sapphire Awards for the category of Lighting for Health and Wellbeing. These prestigious awards were presented on February 14, 2018 at a ceremony held aboard the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA.  Kenall’s new SenScape™ luminaire for parking garages, canopies and low bay applications was also a finalist in Outdoor Street and Area SSL Luminaire Design.

Kenall luminaires using Indigo-Clean Technology are LED fixtures that use narrow spectrum 405nm Indigo light blended with white light to provide ambient illumination, while safely and effectively disinfecting the air, and hard and soft surfaces in a variety of settings, including patient rooms, locker rooms, waiting rooms and physical therapy spaces. This optional feature is available in more than 20 products for a modest upcharge, and kills harmful bacteria in critical environments. When the lights are switched on, Indigo-Clean Technology bolsters current cleaning methods to prevent the spread of Staph*, such as MRSA**.

Luminaires currently offering the Indigo-Clean Technology option include those in the sealed healthcare, behavioral health, correctional, high-abuse and cleanroom/containment applications. Bill Blackley, the Director of Product Marketing for Kenall, accepted the award on the company’s behalf.

Afterward, Blackley stated, “When we first developed Indigo-Clean Continuous Environmental Disinfection (the full 405nm product), we began to see opportunities to create an ambient light with Indigo-Clean Technology (ICT) for healthcare applications outside the surgical suite. Then facility managers from our other markets began asking for luminaires containing ICT as well. Kenall leadership feels strongly that it is a game-changer because of its potential to help facilities reduce harmful bacteria and prevent costly infections.”

Kenall’s other product entry, the SenScape SPG18, is a low-profile, high-output, sealed fixture inspired by the popular TekDek™ parking garage luminaire. Joe Welch, Parking and Controls Product Manager, said “Our engineering team created a ground-up design that not only gave the customers what they asked for, which was a flat-lens luminaire on par with TekDek™, they went a step further and added embedded controls and a Peace of Mind Guarantee®. They deserve recognition for designing a fantastic new product.”
