Designing and building a hospital is complex and costly


By using new technology, engaging in early collaboration with contractors and creating more flexible and adaptable spaces, hospitals are embarking on a new chapter, according to an article on the Colorado Real Estate Journal website.

The process of designing and building a hospital is ever-changing and requires a tremendous amount of upfront capital as well as an understanding of local healthcare building requirements. 

The key to creating a “smart” hospital requires that  the contractor is involved in the design at the initial stages, the article said. 

When the contractor works closely with the stakeholders early in the planning process, they can inform how to best balance capital, system integration, speed-to-market and mitigating market pressures.
