Health technology company Vibrent Health announced that James C. Wade, MD, has joined the company as Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). In the role, Wade will provide direction in clinical, scientific, behavioral and lifestyle research as well as standardization of the measurement and evaluation framework for Vibrent’s digital health programs. He will also act as a liaison to National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program, National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, and other governmental agencies and health organizations on policy issues effecting clinical research, patient care and wellness.

Wade joins Vibrent Health as the 8-year-old company enters into the next phase of its growth with the spring 2018 launch of NIH’s Precision Medicine Initiative, the largest-ever health study in the nation’s history, which is powered by Vibrent Health’s Learning Health System (LHS) precision medicine technology platform.

The project, also called All of Us Research Program (AoURP), is a national research study comprised of 1 million American volunteers who will provide health information and biological samples over a 10-year period. The LHS enables research scientists to collect and combine data from disparate sources, such as genomics, biomarkers, environment, electronic health records, wearable devices, behavior, lifestyle and other health indicators, to make discoveries that can advance precise prevention, detection and treatment of diseases.

Wade, a medical oncologist, formerly served as deputy director for quality and network development at Inova Schar Cancer Institute. Wade is a Professor of Medicine and Oncology and previously held faculty positions at Johns Hopkins hospital, University of Maryland, University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Medical College of Wisconsin, and he served as Chairman at Geisinger Cancer Institute. Wade is board certified in oncology and infectious diseases and internal medicine, and he holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public and a Master of Business Administration from Marquette University.
