Las Vegas psychiatric hospital given a year to address safety issues

In August, federal regulators cut off the facility's Medicare and Medicaid funding


Montevista Hospital in Las Vegas has a year to fix issues that would bring the facility back into compliance with federal health and safety requirements, according to an article on the Review Journal website,

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently entered into a “systems improvement agreement” with the 202-bed psychiatric hospital requiring the hospital to hire an independent quality improvement expert to determine what caused it to fall out of compliance with federal standards.

In August, citing concerns about patient health and safety, federal regulators terminated CMS’ agreement with the hospital and cut off Medicare and Medicaid funding. 

Regulators documented situations where patients set off fire sprinklers, which resulted in patients escaping from the facility, including one who was not found and did not return.
