Long-term care residents moved to safer ground ahead of Dorian

More than 380 people were evacuated from North Carolina long-term care centers

Concerns about wind, rain and destruction expected from Hurricane Dorian meant that more than 380 people were evacuated from North Carolina long-term care centers, according to an article on the North Carolina Health News website.

Two nursing homes had evacuated 93 residents and six assisted living facilities evacuated 291 for a total of 384 residents. No North Carolina hospitals had been evacuated by the afternoon of Sept 5.

Some frail residents took shelter at a specialized medical needs center in Johnston County.

A NC Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson said the agency kept an eye on the effects Hurricane Dorian could have on vulnerable citizens in a variety of settings.
