Los Angeles children's hospital opens rehab center

New 22,000-square-foot Petersen Rehabilitation Center is one of the largest acute pediatric rehabilitation centers in the country


Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) recently opened its new 22,000-square-foot, safari-themed Petersen Rehabilitation Center, one of the largest acute pediatric rehabilitation centers in the country, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.

Every patient room includes a family sleep area, bathroom, shower and free wireless Internet. The facility also offeres the GetWellNetwork, an interactive patient care system developed for pediatric patients and their families that allows them to learn and play while in the hospital, the article said.

The rehabilitation gym has 1,750 square feet of physical and occupational therapy space. There is also an occupational therapy craft room and a kitchen for therapeutic training.

The facility has 22 patient beds with 16 private rooms, three semiprivate rooms and two medical isolation rooms for patients with fragile immune systems.
