Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital will have a dedicated officer from the Ellsworth Police Department on site in the spring, according to an article on the Ellsworth American website.
The hospital would fund the full-time position but the officer would be an employee of the Ellsworth Police Department.
The cost would likely be around $70,000 to $80,000 for the first year. The City Council would have to approve the position, an arrangement that would be similar to that of a school resource officer.
The officer would not be at the hospital 24/7. Northern Light will work with the police department to determine what times of day such a service would be most effective.
