A man wanted for murder in Tennessee was identified at a local hospital in Columbia, South Carolina on November 10, according to The State. The suspect, Nicholas Wayne Hamlet, was identified by a hospital staff member who then notified law enforcement. His identity was confirmed by a fingerprint scanner from the University of South Carolina Police Department. He was captured and is now in the U.S. Marshals Service’s custody, awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

Many different individuals pass through healthcare facilities daily, with some being wanted for crimes.

Access controls, when paired with surveillance cameras and other security technologies, can help keep an eye on who visits a healthcare facility. This information can be used then to both secure the buildings and aid in investigations.

Overseeing access and keeping tabs on occupants and visitors is vital in healthcare facilities since it adds a sense of safety and security, Thomas Morgan, director of business development for healthcare at ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions, previously told Healthcare Facilities Today

“In any healthcare environment, the number one priority is the health and safety of the patient,” says Morgan. “Intelligent access control solutions allow you to focus on what really matters by providing the accountability, convenience and security needed for your hospital or healthcare facility to run smoothly.”
