The man who died in an apparent suicide at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., jumped from a patient room window in an unused section of the hospital, according to an article on the Syracuse.com website.
A hospital official said the window of the room was secured, but it appears the man tampered with it.
The man was in Crouse's emergency room earlier in the day and voluntarily left.
That section of the fifth floor is not a locked unit because it is used as needed for patient care, the hospital said. Crouse is evaluating security and patient/staff safety processes and procedures.
