Managing Campus Visitors During the Pandemic

Visitor management begins at the door

Visitor management begins at the door and controlling who is allowed onto the campus is critical, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

For instance, if a visitor arrives without credentials,  staff should not open a door to talk with them.

Instead, a video intercom provides campus staff an identifying view of a potential visitor without breaching security.

Most video intercoms also offer a clear enough picture to be able to read ID cards, which can be used to verify a visitor’s identity.

In the face of a global pandemic, the importance of access control has become even more pronounced. Today, the technology is being used to help healthcare facilities mitigate the spread of disease by eliminating common touch points, isolating infected patients, and enabling healthcare providers to treat and communicate with patients from a safe distance when needed. Like many of today’s security technologies, access control’s potential has expanded in accordance with real-world needs, according to a recent blog on Healthcare Facilities Today.
