Mayo Clinic Health System is committing $9 million to expand and renovate the New Prague cancer center beginning in 2024.
The cancer center project is the second phase of the strategic vision for the campus, building upon a $5 million operating room expansion and the introduction of numerous surgical specialties during phase one.
The number of U.S. patients needing cancer care is expected to grow by nearly nine percent in the next five years. The New Prague cancer center provides lifesaving treatment to patients with cancer in communities within many miles of the city.
Some of the project's key features will include:
- An integrated and full-service Oncology Department, providing clinical care, chemotherapy, immuno and targeted therapies, genetic counseling, nutrition guidance, social work assistance and pharmacy support.
- Enhanced patient privacy and accommodations that support infection control.
- Eight infusion therapy bays and two private rooms for a total of 10 beds, which will be used for both cancer and noncancer infusions.
- Five exam rooms for oncology and hematology patients.
- Improved patient flow and wayfinding.
- Dedicated provider office, nurse station and break room.
