McCarthy Building Companies celebrates structural steel topping-out of new $40 Million Rady Children's Hospital Education Office Building

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., one of the nation’s leading healthcare builders, celebrated the topping-out of the new Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego Education Office Building on Friday, Sept. 25. McCarthy team members joined representatives from Rady Children’s Hospital including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Irvin “Buzz” Kaufman and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Nicholas Holmes.

“We are committed to delivering quality results and establishing lasting relationships with our clients, which is why we are honored to be celebrating the topping-out of McCarthy’s third project for Rady Children’s Hospital,” said Jason Mrozek, vice president of operations for McCarthy in San Diego. “This building will allow Rady to bring together physicians from multiple departments for a greater level of collaboration and education while continuing to provide children in the region with unparalleled care.”

The 96,000-square-foot building is located at 7960 Birmingham Drive in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego and will house Rady Children’s Hospital doctors and executives and also provide meeting and educational spaces. The building will feature state-of-the-industry audio and video capabilities while supporting preliminary telemedicine operations.

In addition to the Education Office Building, McCarthy is also overseeing extensive offsite underground utility work for both Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and neighboring Sharp Healthcare as part of this project.

Designed by Stantec Architects to achieve the level of occupant health and environmental sustainability required to earn LEED-certified status, the project is scheduled for completion in late 2016. The hospital will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction process.
