The Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC) has accredited Mediclean Linen & Laundry Inc., Commerce, California, following a voluntary inspection of the Commerce, CA-based facility by an independent contractor who has received training of HLAC standards and inspection guidelines.
HLAC is a nonprofit organization that inspects and accredits laundries that process reusable textiles for hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities - based on the highest, professionally recognized standards for patient safety and infection prevention.
For Mediclean, HLAC accreditation means the laundry meets HLAC Accreditation Standards, which have been developed based on federal regulations and guidelines as well as best industry practices. There are more than 600 standards found in the HLAC Accreditation Standards document. The standards are established as the minimum acceptable practice for the preparation of hygienically clean, reusable healthcare textiles for patient care, implemented and executed by accredited laundry facilities processing reusable healthcare textiles.
"Meeting and maintaining HLAC Accreditation Standards means Mediclean Linen & Laundry has voluntarily committed to a new level of excellence in the way it processes healthcare textiles," said John Scherberger, HLAC board president. "The Mediclean team members can have the assurance that their laundry is built right, equipped properly and staffed with qualified and trained personnel for processing product, interacting with customers and vendors and maintaining operations in a clean and aseptic manner."
Scherberger said the principal benefit of accreditation to Mediclean's healthcare customers is the knowledge that their textile provider is meeting the industry's highest standards for processing textiles. "HLAC accreditation is like a dividend, an advantage or benefit validating for Mediclean's customers their laundry's expertise, believability, dependability, reliability and soundness," he said.
Anil Yalamanchi, president of Mediclean, said receiving HLAC accreditation gives the laundry a genuine advantage over its competitors.
