North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven, Mich., will build a $9.6 million emergency room with a collaborative space for mental health services and the Greater Ottawa County United Way, according to an article on the MLive website.
"Our ER is a place people come to time and time again because they don't have access to things like primary care, mental health resources or the kinds of basic needs such as housing, food and transportation," said Shelleye Yaklin, of North Ottawa Community Health System (NOCHS).
Yaklin said NOCHS is making an effort to avoid rerouting patients to urgent care as many hospitals nationwide do.
Yaklin said the new 25,226-square-foot emergency room will allow the hospital to provide more affordable care, improve overall community health and better serve emergency room patients who need "fast, focused and decisive service."
