No matter how healthcare legislation pans out, indications are that smaller is better, according to an article on the Construction Dive website.

The growth in the healthcare industry is expected to be strong in outpatient and retail clinics 

Pennsylvania-based Highmark Health is planning $700 million in projects that include four 10- to 12-bed micro-hospitals, each with a 24/7 emergency room and primary and specialty medical services. 

The micro-hospitals will be 15,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet.
