As Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale undergoes a four-year, $33 million renovation project, monitoring technology is protecting patients from noise and dust, according to an article on the Sun-Sentinel website.
The monitoring system issues alerts if the noise, vibrations and dust particles from its construction work begins to reach harmful levels.
With the "inSite" monitor, environmental issues from the construction "do not reach the point where the nursing staff says 'that's a problem," and then it's too late," Richard Polemeni, construction director for the Broward Health hospital system, said in the article.
The monitor is placed on a wall between the construction zone and the patient wards. While construction is underway, the monitor's readings might fluctuate between green and a cautionary yellow.
