Montreal hospital to spend $4.5 million on security upgrades

A range options for new construction and renovation offer flexibility, cost efficiency and easy installation


Douglas Mental Health University Institute in Montreal has approved $4.5 million to upgrade security, according to an article on the Montreal Gazette website.

Three months after the facility set up a task force to curb escalating violence against staff, workers say not much has been done beyond some cosmetic improvements.

Some of the new security measures include:

• The installation of metal detectors and surveillance cameras

• Staff training 

• Security guards are increasing their rounds

Union leaders and management are expected to meet again in October to assess the progress of the security upgrades.
