A Pioneer Health Systems emergency room in King, N.C., will be converted to urgent care facility because it was losing money, according to an article on the WXII12 website.
System officials said they were losing money due to an increase in self-pay patients who didn't pay, as well as a cut in Medicare reimbursements.
Nearly 30 percent of patients at the King facility don't have health insurance.
The urgent care designation will allow the facility to turn away patients and reduce costs per visit.
