Federal Surplus Property has donated a $9 million FEMA-authorized mobile hospital unit to the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services, according to an article on the Charlotte Business Journal website.
The mobile hospital includes:
• Two five-bed mobile emergency departments
• A 21-bed emergency department with X-ray unit, clinical lab, pharmacy and medical supply and logistical support
• A 12-bed intensive care unit
• An operating room with an imaging scanner intensifier and operating microscope
The mobile hospital was trucked in pieces from North Carolina to Mississippi to help support recovery efforts after a tornado ripped through the town of Louisville.
The facility was previously owned by FEMA and maintained by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
