Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, N.C., is building a $11 million emergency department, according to an article on the Citizen-Times.
The new 18,000-square-foot emergency department will have 23 beds, including 14 beds for acute care. It will also include five beds for less severe medical problems and four beds for patients awaiting transfer to a behavioral health facility.
The existing emergency department is more than 25 years old and was not built to accommodate the current volume of patients.
As part of the upgrades, the emergency department will move to the front of the hospital.
