N.J. Board of Public Utilities OKs energy efficiency programs

PSE&G will continue its Hospital Efficiency Program, Residential Multifamily Housing Efficiency Program, and Direct Install Program

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) recently approved a proposal from Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) to extend three of the company’s energy efficiency programs and launch two new initiatives, according to an article on the Daily Energy Insider.

PSE&G will continue its Hospital Efficiency Program, Residential Multifamily Housing Efficiency Program, and Direct Install Program and begin a Smart Thermostat Program and Residential Data Analytics Program.

“Energy efficiency remains a huge missed opportunity for too many of our customers,” Courtney McCormick, vice president of renewables and energy solutions at PSE&G, said. “So we are very happy that today’s BPU approval will allow us to help even more hospitals, apartment buildings, government facilities, non-profits, small businesses and residential customers realize the benefits of energy efficiency to save energy and money while doing their part to reduce their impact on our environment.”

PSE&G will invest approximately $69 million in the five programs. Estimates show that the programs will save enough electricity to power approximately 9,000 average-size homes each year and enough natural gas to supply approximately 7,000 homes each year.
