Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston is adding 241,000 square feet of new construction, 29,000 square feet of renovated space and a new structured parking facility as part of its $250 million expansion, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.
Design for the expansion will add expansive spaces but the number of beds will not increase.
The five-story addition will be slightly angled from the existing complex. Its light and transparent façade emphasizes glazing as a counterpoint to the existing brick, 1960s-era facility. The visual and functional centerpiece of the addition is a two-story, structurally glazed lobby, the article said.
The new wing is designed as an all-private room model and will add bedside computers, stools for clinicians, sleep sofas and guest seating to encourage patient interaction.
