N.J. hospital's violence prevention program focuses on diffusing situations

RWJ University Hospital Hamilton has decreased the need for security interventions by 42 percent

The workplace violence program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton in Hamilton, N.J., has decreased the need for security interventions by 42 percent, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

The hospital's program allows staff to diffuse aggressive and disruptive flare-ups by patients, families and visitors.

Due to this success, as well as other improvements to the hospital’s safety, security and emergency management programs, Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Robert W. Field, Jr., has been named Campus Safety magazine’s 2018 Healthcare Director of the Year.

Shortly after coming to the hospital, Field began a transformation of his department. The first step was acknowledging that workplace violence and disruptions occurred, the article said.
