As hospitals in some parts of the nation struggle with another surge in COVID-19 cases, healthcare systems in other regions are forging ahead with projects designed to expand their reach in their communities.

A new hospital at St. Elizabeths East in Washington, D.C. will be constructed by Universal Health Services, thanks to a construction management joint venture of Turner Construction Co. and MCN Build, according to Medical Construction & Design.

The new 136-bed acute care hospital and ambulatory care pavilion will offer an array of critical health and specialty services to the community. The facility will include maternal health and newborn nursery and obstetric services. Additional services will include trauma care, orthopedic, cardiac, hypertension, cancer, kidney, rehabilitation, general surgery and mental health.
