Two new healthcare facilities, University Medical Center (UMC) New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System’s new VA medical center are designed with redundancy and armor to protect against a future blow, according to an article on the Healthcare Design website. The facilities are built to withstand 130 mph winds, built on elevated sites with sacrificial first floors.
