Health systems are investing in facility construction again after focusing on health information technology, according to an article on the Modern Healthcare website.
Much of the activity has been with outpatient services as healthcare increasingly shifts to lower-cost-care settings. Freestanding emergency departments are also springing up.
On the inpatient side, there's a greater emphasis on service line planning as hospitals seek to become more competitive in high-margin specialties, the article said.
“There seems to be a lot more money flowing into healthcare construction these days,” Thomas Gormley of AECOM, a design and construction firm, said in the article.
