Novant Health Gets Approval for New Hospital and Freestanding Emergency Department

The new facilities will elevate access to healthcare in North Carolina’s fastest-growing county.

Novant Health has received approval from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to build a 20-bed hospital and a separate free-standing emergency department in Brunswick County.

The new facilities will elevate access to healthcare in North Carolina’s fastest-growing county.

The approved plans include a hospital along U.S. 74/76 in Leland and a freestanding emergency department in Carolina Shores.

The future Novant Health Leland Medical Center will be constructed near the Compass Pointe community. The hospital will include a 24/7 emergency department, imaging services, 10 observation beds and five procedure rooms.

Novant Health continues to expand services at Brunswick Medical Center’s Bolivia campus, including an expanded MRI space and a cardiac catheterization lab. The lab will allow patients to receive interventional cardiology procedures, such as stent placements, without having to travel outside the county.

This year, Novant Health will also open an ambulatory surgery center in the Leland area, which will expand access to outpatient affordable surgical care.
