A former nurse at a San Antonio nursing home for elderly COVID-19 patients said she was fired for alerting authorities to the facility’s cooling problems, according to an article on the KSAT website.
The nurse, who has since been fired, filed a lawsuit accusing the River City Care Center of negligence and retaliation.
The nurse told her supervisors and then called 911 and state health officials to report the lack of a working air conditioner inside the facility, which caused residents to become dehydrated and to vomit, according to the suit.
A spokesperson for River City’s parent company said considerable upgrades have been made to the facility.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will resume routine inspections for all Medicare- and Medicaid-certified providers and suppliers, after suspending them due to COVID, according to an article on the Skilled Nursing News website.
