OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital switches to LED fixtures as part of conservation efforts

OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio, has overhauled of its lighting system, converting all hospital lights to energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures, according to an article on The Jackson Country Times-County website.

“The upgrade made sense from every angle,” Mark Seckinger, president of OhioHealth O’Bleness, said in the article. “The conversion to LED lighting will lower our utility and maintenance costs, improve our facility for our patients, enhance the safety of our campus and allow us to be responsible environmental stewards. We are incredibly happy to be making the move to more sustainable technologies.”

The retrofitted fixtures also offer brighter light and improved light quality, the article said. It is estimated that the parking lot will become 50 percent brighter at night as a result of the project.

The conversion to LED fixtures will prevent 775 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, an amount equal to that produced by a passenger vehicle driven 1,800,000 miles every year.
