ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital in Defiance, Ohio, was asked to increase video monitoring in the facility after an attempted rape of a patient, according to an article on the Toledo Blade.
No one at the hospital had called police after the attack, according to the victim's family. The attacker had been put in a secure room by hospital staff. The victim said she was speaking out to force change and increase hospital safety.
Interim hospital president Dr. Neeraj Kanwal said ProMedica does an internal root-cause analysis after every patient-safety incident, such as an assault, medication error, or patient fall.
“We will find ways to make improvements,” he said. “That’s the purpose of this, to identify what can you do better.”
