Ohio hospital honored for environmental practices

Health system has developed initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve management of electricity and gas usage and increase recycling of hazardous waste


The Mercy Health-Youngstown hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, has been honored for its work in promoting good environmental practices and developing best practices for other hospitals to follow, according to an article on the Business Journal Daily website.

The Ohio Hospital Association has presented Mercy Health-Youngstown with the Melvin Creeley Environmental Leadership Award.

The Mercy Health health system has developed initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve management of electricity and gas usage and increase recycling of hazardous waste such as pharmaceuticals and light bulbs.

The system is also working with vendors to bring in post-consumer packaging and utensils to its nutrition service operations.
