The Markham Stouffville Hospital in Markham, Ontario, has received LEED Silver certification for its 385,000-square-foot expansion, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.
The original building also received upgrades, including new floors, windows and paint. Hand washing stations, private bathrooms and medical charting technology closer to the beds were added to the existing patient rooms.
The new building will be a “calm, simple building without a lot of details,” said Suman Bahl, vice president of corporate services and capital development at the hospital.
The $400 million project was able to recycle 90 percent of the waste created by construction.
