PeaceHealth’s Eugene and Springfield (Ore.) campuses were on modified lockdown with restrictions on where the public can enter the hospitals, following two gun-related incidents, according to an article on the Register-Guard website.
A Eugene man came into Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield with a gun inside of a gun case, saying he was looking for a gun class, according to Springfield police. When he was told there were no gun classes at the hospital, he left, police said.
A rifle was later found in the parking garage bike rack and is believed to have been left by the man, who was arrested. Police have since impounded the man’s car in the parking garage and believe at least one additional weapon is inside of the vehicle.
It was the second incident in the same day in which firearms made it into Sacred Heart Medical Center. That morning, a patient at the hospital shot himself to death.
