Utilivisor to provide energy services for BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program in Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD –  utiliVisor has been approved by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) as an energy services provider for building tune-up projects throughout its central Maryland service territory.

Working under the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program, utiliVisor will serve as an energy advisor, providing continuous energy oversight to identify cost savings and help owners improve the operation of their existing systems. Building tune-up (also known as retro-commissioning) is the process of monitoring, troubleshooting and adjusting electrical, mechanical and control systems in existing buildings to optimize energy performance.

The Building Tune-up Program is offered in support of EmPOWER Maryland and provides BGE customers financial incentives of up to $30,000 for identifying and implementing relatively low-cost operational and maintenance improvements to enhance energy efficiency. utiliVisor’s unique process combines real time energy management and an operations center of engineers who monitor, troubleshoot and advise on electrical, mechanical and controls systems in existing buildings to optimize energy performance.

“utiliVisor’s continuous energy oversight program will create opportunities for Maryland facilities with large central plants to reduce energy operating costs by 12-20 percent,” explained Tim Angerame, Chief Operating Officer at utiliVisor. “And a portion of the initial capital investment in energy conservation measures will be offset by the incentives from the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program.”

utiliVisor’s services will encompasses expert analysis of a building to ensure all its energy-using systems perform optimally, resulting in the identification of no-cost and low-cost energy saving improvements that can reduce energy usage and operating costs.

This monitoring-based approach utilizes utiliVisor’s specialized software to analyze building system performance and determine the most efficient operation. Data from a facility’s central plant is collected and transmitted every five minutes via the web to the utiliVisor Operations Center where the company’s energy engineers analyze the data and provide recommendations for continuous plant optimization.

“In most instances, building owners are able to realize significant cost savings in a relatively short period of time,” Mr. Angerame explained. “In fact, with the incentives from BGE’s Building Tune-up Program, the payback on capital investment in the monitoring effort can be achieved in two to two and a-half years.”

Founded in 1978, utiliVisor offers comprehensive energy monitoring and submetering services, providing accurate, reliable solutions to boost efficiency and lower energy consumption.  The utiliVisor system is a web-based, networked solution, built on open standards, that works in real time to collect and format data, monitor operations and equipment errors, and deliver oversight via web-based alerts and alarms.  UtiliVisor services more than 250 million square feet of commercial and institutional space nationwide and oversees more than 225,000 service data points, more than any other service provider in the United States. It is also the largest submetering company in the tri-state New York metropolitan area and an approved Meter Data Service Provider (MDSP) for the State of New York. (www.utilivisor.com).
