Palo Alto Medical Foundation recognized for interior design

San Carlos, Calif., facility was honored at the 37th Annual Interiors Awards

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation in San Carlos, Calif., has been recognized for its interior design by the 37th Annual Interiors Awards, which recognize international projects across 14 categories, according to an article on the Contract website.

The Palo Alto facility was honored in the healthcare category. The jury said:“A lot of skill went into making this interior be incredibly beautiful. You don’t usually use the word ‘elegant’ in describing a healthcare setting, but this is elegant. It truly reflects nature’s power to heal.”

The building’s design promotes the use natural lighting as well as ease of wayfinding. The garage’s glass stairwell overlooks the adjacent reception building, allowing patients to see where they need to go while also encouraging them to bypass the elevator.

The spacious lobby feels like "a luxury ski resort," with walls of cleft-cut sandstone and massive end-block Douglas fir.
