Patient at Seattle healthcare facility likely got coronavirus at the hospital

Harborview Medical Center has recorded a COVID-19 patient as a hospital-acquired infection, its first during the outbreak

A patient at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle who tested positive for COVID-19 likely acquired the disease while receiving treatment there, according to an article on the Seattle Times website.

The hospital has recorded the case as a hospital-acquired infection, its first during the outbreak.

The patient, a man in his 60s, was admitted to the hospital in early April for an urgent surgery. Harborview requires COVID-19 testing for surgery patients and the man’s test results were negative at that point.

Harborview tested the patient a second time before he left for a skilled nursing facility and he tested positive for COVID-19. The facility is reviewing which staffers treated him and patients with whom he might have shared a room or other space.
