The Philadelphia-area is seeing a boom in suburban healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Philly.com website.
Health systems in the area are spending $700 million on outpatient centers in a bid to push their front doors into the community, the article said.
Since 2010, local health systems have opened a dozen specialty-care centers in Philadelphia's suburbs, and at least five more are in development.
This trend has brought with it an increasing tendency for tax-exempt systems to pay property taxes. They are lease buildings and, as the lessee, are forced to pay taxes.
