Philadelphia hospital cleaners cited for state of bed railings

Doctor says fault is with design, not with environmental services

State inspectors found that the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania janitorial staff were doing a subpar job of cleaning the hinges on bed railings last fall, according to an article on the Philly.com website.

When the Pennsylvania Department of Health visited in May, the problem had been corrected through enhanced training and internal inspections.

The state’s findings were based on interviews with employees and photographs from a physician whose wife noticed the problem during her treatment at the Philadelphia hospital.

However, the doctor says the fault lies with their design, not with the cleaning staff.
