Phoenix hospital trains for potential violence

Shooting in Chicago highlights dangers


Less than a month ago, FBI agents joined, firefighters and police at the Phoenix Children's Hospital to practice what they would do in case of an active shooter situation.

The importance of the three-day drill at Phoenix Children's Hospital's emergency department was highlighted by the recent shooting at a Chicago's Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare

"Ten years ago, we would have been doing anthrax or weapons of mass destruction [training] because that was the major concern at that time," said Ken Crouch, manager of emergency preparedness at Phoenix Children's.

 "As the active shooter phenomenon, for lack of a better term, continues to get more and more prevalent and more and more press, that's a concern," he said in the article.
