Physicians Endoscopy Supports Colon Cancer Awareness Month

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 60% of colorectal cancer deaths can be prevented with a screening colonoscopy. As an advocate for detection and prevention, Physicians Endoscopy (PE) is engaged in several initiatives to mark the start of March—Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

"Our organization is dedicated to colon cancer prevention every day. We are thrilled during March to double down on this effort by helping all of our physicians, center staff, and team members here in Jamison, PA, with outreach and educational services to help save lives," said Barry Tanner, Physicians Endoscopy's President and CEO.

Physicians Endoscopy kicks off March with a Colon Cancer Awareness campaign that offers information and education to friends and family of employees and center staff. PE is an active supporter of Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia—a family friendly fundraising event in collaboration with the Colon Cancer Coalition. Get Your Rear in Gear's Executive Director Maria Grasso, works to empower local communities in promoting early detection of colon cancer and provides education of the treatable disease. PE is also an advocate of AliveAndKickn, a hereditary cancer foundation committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by Lynch Syndrome and associated cancers through research, education, and screening.

Because of PE's collective commitment to helping GI physicians deliver exemplary care, the company has a goal to help increase colon cancer screenings in its partnered centers. In 2018, PE centers are scheduled to perform an estimated 535,000 procedures.

"As we celebrate our 20-year anniversary in 2018, I am proud of our commitment to the GI industry, our centers and partners, and the many organizations we support that promote colon cancer awareness. I'm amazed each year by our centers and staff who coordinate so many ways to spread the word.  In the Philadelphia area, we are again sponsoring the Get Your Rear in Gear event in March.  Taking it a step further, we are distributing promotional materials to our employees, centers, staff and doctors to help communicate the importance of getting screened," said Frank Principati, Physicians Endoscopy's COO.

As part of its mission of "improving the landscape of healthcare one surgery center at a time," PE supports and participates in various organizations and societies across the country, including:

  • American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)
  • American Gastrointestinal Association (AGA)
  • American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE)
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA)
