QMotion Spreads the Word about Safer Products and Practices for National Window Covering Safety Month

October is National Window Covering Safety Month and Legrand brand QMotion is joining organizations such as the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in urging consumers to inspect their window coverings for exposed or dangling cords.

These organizations recommend consumers use only cordless window coverings or window coverings with inaccessible cords in homes with young children. According to the CPSC, corded window coverings are one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes, with infants and children accidentally becoming entangled in window covering cords.

Since 2016, QMotion has been a recipient of the Best for Kids Certification from WCSC for the safety and function of its cordless Qadvanced Roller Shades and Qfree Roller Shades. Consumers can easily identify cordless window covering options available at major retailers across the country by looking for the Best for Kids™ certification label on the packaging of a large variety of products.

“QMotion is proud to join the Window Covering Safety Council throughout October in reminding parents and caregivers to examine all shades and blinds in their homes for accessible cords on the front, side and back, and replace corded products with cordless window products," said Charlie Derk, Director of Product Marketing, Shading Systems at Legrand. "New industry innovations and safety standards have provided consumers with more choices than ever to obtain products that are designed to be safe for children."

This October, QMotion encourages everyone to help spread the word about window covering safety by highlighting QMotion with the hashtags #QMotionCaresAboutKids and #Jointhecrew

Learn more about Qadvanced Roller Shades and Qfree Roller Shades online or look for them in the updatedQMotion Product Guide - available as a PDF download or in the QMotion Sales App. QMotion and the WCSC encourages parents and caregivers to follow these window covering safety guidelines:

  • Install only cordless window coverings or those with inaccessible cords in homes with young children. Replace window blinds and corded shades with products that are cordless or have inaccessible cords marked with the Best for Kids™ certification label. The label enables you to easily identify products best suited for homes with young children.

  • Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows and window cords, preferably to another wall.

  • When window cords are present, ensure that all window cords are out of sight and reach, by shortening or moving them up and away, so that they are inaccessible to young children.
