The overdose death of a veteran is prompting changes and improvements to safety and security at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, according to an article on the WBAY website.
The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) has been looking into allegations of an unsafe and non-secure environment.
Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin called for the OIG investigation in 2015 after former Army Ranger Cole Schuler died of a heroin overdose while in drug treatment at the Domiciliary, a residential treatment program at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.
The facility already has installed many improvements, including locked doors, screech alarms, more staff, more cameras and routine room checks.
