A Charleston, S.C., assisted living facility's security measure are under fire after a wandering resident left the facility and was killed by alligator, according to an article on the The Post and Courier website.
The woman, who has been diagnosed with dementia, was supposed to be watched 24/7 before being moved to more appropriate unit A video recording showed the woman walking the halls and no one noticed when a door's security bell chimed at 12:15 a.m.
Her body was later found in a nearby lake. Investigators said they believed she fell into the water, attracting an alligator’s attention.
Department of Health and Environmental Control investigators found the facility staff did not follow their own guidelines to conduct night checks.
