S.C. healthcare facilities help hospitals in flood zone

Greenville Health System is one of many offering help to those in the Midlands and Lowcountry

South Carolina's Greenville Health System is one of many offering help to hospitals struggling in the Midlands and Lowcountry flood zone, according to an article on the Greenville Online website.

The hospital is sending water-purification resources to Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia which can process more than 500 gallons of water an hour, officials said.

It's also been designated as a contingency site to help other hospitals with instrument sterilization if needed.

The effort is part of a state-wide mutual aid program that allows sharing of beds, staff, supplies and other resources in a disaster, officials said.
