Safety measures added to children's hospital construction after accident

Work stops after a forklift punched through the window of a four bed patient room in the adjacent Royal University Hospital

Construction resumed with additional safety measures at Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan. Work stopped after a forklift punched through the window of a four bed patient room in the adjacent Royal University Hospital, according to an article on the Saskatoon Home Page website.

The incident left staff and one patient who was nearby, shaken, but no one was hurt.

Some of the measures set to be installed include putting plywood over the windows to protect them as well as removing the ground level walkway from the parkade to the escalator pod and RUH pedway.

A safety committee has also been set up between the Health Region and Graham Construction to conduct weekly reviews, ensuring all safety measures have been met and that new risks are identified and dealt with appropriately.
