Scotch-Brite Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System proves its worth in Gleaming Griddle Challenge

The daily job of scrubbing, scouring and scraping a heavily-used griddle until it shines is most foodservice operators’ least favorite task. 3M Commercial Solutions Division invited foodservice operators from across the country to try a new griddle cleaning product and challenged them to cut their cleaning time by at least 40 percent. The results were unanimous: the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System gets the job done.

The winner, Andrew Punchard from Calhoun, Georgia, is the Director of Nutritional Services at Gordon Hospital & Murray Medical Center. Between the demands of hospital meetings, catering needs, patient meals and a busy cafeteria, the hospital kitchen staff cooks more than 350 meals a day. Many of  these meals are prepared on the griddle; chicken, burgers, quesadillas, stir fry and more.

‘When we tried the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System, we couldn’t believe how easily it worked. It did a fantastic job of removing the grime from a day’s worth of demands,” said Punchard. “We’ve tried numerous cleaning solutions over the years from gels to lemon juice and vinegar. With 3M’s system the grill we had been using day in and day out for nine years suddenly looked brand new again.”

Between May 20 and Sept. 30, 2015, 3M gathered photos showcasing griddles half clean and half soiled. Each submission was entered into the Gleaming Griddle Challenge for a chance to win a trip for two to California wine country, and a 14-course menu tasting and wine pairing at acclaimed The French Laundry. Second and third place winners each received a $100 Amazon gift card.

“When we invited foodservice professionals to try the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle System, they jumped at the opportunity,” said Amber Rhy, marketing manager, at 3M. “This is an industry where time is of the essence and the testimonials we received from participants for the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System praised its efficiency and ease of use.”

The Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System is faster, safer, and easier to use than traditional griddle cleaning products, such as bricks and screens. Using an easy three-step process—squirt, scour, and squeegee—the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System cleans efficiently with no rinsing needed, and leaves no messy residue behind. The cleaning liquid is formulated with ingredients that are considered “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) in food by the U. S. FDA and is the only griddle cleaning liquid that has been certified by the Green Seal™ organization.

In a recent study, the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System cleaned a food-soiled griddle 40 percent faster than the leading competitive griddle cleaning system, based on time to clean equivalently soiled griddle surfaces. Results showed the Scotch-Brite™ Quick Clean Griddle Cleaning System cleaned the griddle in an average of 66 seconds compared to the leading competitor’s average of 126 seconds.
