Security tightening at hospitals

Some facilities have moved to increase security due to local and even internal incidents

Some healthcare facilities have increased security measures because of incidents of violence within as well as outside their walls, according to an article on the DotMed website.

For instance, two Florida hospitals took aggressive security stands after the Pulse nightclub shooting incident in Orlando. Another Florida hospital quickly installed new security procedures after a patient killed a doctor, the article said.

Security officers are now armed at many facilities and some hospital systems are augmenting safety by training staff members on how to de-escalate potentially violent situations.

However, some hospitals still have a relatively open policy that allows visitors to travel freely in the facility with only volunteers to monitor the flow of traffic.
