Shriners Hospital for Children - Chicago wins the 2014 Energy to Care Award from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering

Shriners Hospital for Children - Chicago, a specialty pediatric hospital, is a 2014 winner of the Energy to Care Award from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (AHSE) of the American Hospital Association, according to an article on the Chicago Tribune website.

The Energy to Care Award recognizes hospitals that reduced their facility's energy consumption by 10 percent or more. The Chicago Shriners hospital is one of 11 hospitals nationwide to receive the 2014 award.

"To be able to reduce our energy use by 10 percent over three years shows we're doing something right as a team," Michael Sullivan, director of facilities at the Chicago Shriners Hospital, said.

Chicago Shriners Hospital's "Green Team" monitors energy consumption and helps educate staff and visitors about ways to reduce waste and improve recycling. The Green Team recently celebrated America Recycles Day with a desk made entirely of recycled materials.
