The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) hosted a webinar with members about violence in healthcare settings after two hospital shootings occurred in two days, according to an article on the NBC New 2 website.
One shooting was in the emergency department of the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg and another inside Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported that serious workplace violence is four times more common in the healthcare industry. SCHA talked with members about how to report violent incidents and create a culture where employees are comfortable talking about them.
South Carolina is one of three states in the nation without legal protections in place for health care workers, according to the SCHA.
